Pack 101 has a Facebook Group for real-time announcements and communication.
Joining scouting requires 2 easy steps:
Complete and turn in an 🔗application form.
Pay dues to our treasurer (🔗Contact Us). Online Payments may be coming soon.
Or, you may join online:
Click 🔗here to fill out an online application/registration - this link will take you directly to the Pack 3101 registration page.
You will also be prompted to pay dues upon checkout.
The option to join online also requires you to create an account with scouting.org, which you will have to do either way. We recommended creating a unique username and password rather than using a Google or Apple login. This login will also work on Scoutbook.com
Any Time Signup
You can sign up for scouts at any time. All you have to do is fill in the forms, above, for your scout and come to a Pack or Den event with dues, where you can begin participating right away. We are a year long Pack and have events at least one per month during the school year. See our 🔗Events Page for upcoming meetings.
We accept scouts year round, however after December it may be challenging to catch scouts up with award requirements, without extra time and work at home on the scout's and parents' side.
Note: some of the costs listed below are estimates and your actual costs may vary.
Registration and Dues:
According to scouting.org, as of August 1, 2023, annual dues are as follows:
The national registration fee is $105***. This includes a one-time joining fee of $25 and an annual fee of $80.
For only $15 for the year, Cub Scouts may optionally subscribe to Scout Life magazine.
*** prices are subject to change - please check back at scouting.org for updates
Uniform:
Your scout will also be required to wear a uniform. In Pack 101, we require an official BSA Cub Scout shirt with patches placed correctly along with a belt to display belt loop awards. A full uniform instills a sens of pride and belonging in each scout.
Uniforms may be purchased in person at the 🔗Iott Scout Shot at Camp Miakonda or online at 🔗scouting.org. The Iott Scout Shop currently does not offer sewing services, but badge magic is an easy option.
Awards and advancements, including belt loops, patches, and pins, will be paid for and provided by Pack 101 upon successful completion.
Our Dress Code page lists all uniform requirements based on rank. For shirt, pants belt, hat, neckerchief, and patches, you can expect to pay approximately $125 to $220, not including a good pair of hiking boots.
Gear:
Cub scouts will learn of the Six Essentials that are required to safely explore the outdoors.
Our Recommended Gear page list these six essentials and provides some ideas for a full kit.
To start out, a full kit of six essentials can total $100 up to $150. But please shop around for gear that suits you.
Handbook:
After joining, all Scouts should own a Cub Scout handbook for their Den.
This handbook shows all the requirements needed to achieve the "rank" award for the age of the scout. There are required "adventures" and electives.
Cost of a handbook for each rank is approximately $25. See our 🔗Recommended Gear page for links to obtain a handbook.
Other expenses:
Pack 101 does other activities that require additional gear and supplies.
For example, our Winter Weekend at Camp Miakonda and other camp-outs and outdoor activities will require scouts to wear snow boots, jackets, snow pants (among other winter gear) as well as sleep in a sleeping bag and own/use a mess kit.
The above does not need to be official BSA gear. But, scouts should wear their uniforms underneath.
Popcorn Sales:
Scouts in Pack 101 sell popcorn as a fundraiser for the Pack and the individual scout.
Some of the money that your scout raises from popcorn sales will belong to your scout as he or she transitions to Boy Scouts.
There is no minimum requirement for popcorn sales. But, if your scout sells a minimum amount (as set by the Pack year-to-year), then the Pack will credit that Scout's Registration Fee for the year.
In Total:
Your yearly total cost may vary from year to year.
1st year - dues plus a new uniform, six essentials, and handbook, can total in the range of $350 up to $450.
2nd year and up - where scouts may re-use the uniform and already have the six essentials, can total in the range $110 up to $150.
Webelos require a new uniform and so expect costs to total in the range of $245 to $280.
Note the above costs are estimates and your actual costs may vary.
But keep in mind the Cub Scout program runs from late August through the end of the school year. We also plan activities in June and July. In total, the above costs are for a year-round program of activities.
Pack 101 pays for the following:
Awards for Advancements (belt loops, patches, pins)
Rocket Kits
Halloween Party Prizes
Pinewood Derby Car Kit
Rain Gutter Regatta Kit
Bait for the Fishing Derby
Some fees for Winter Weekend
At least 1 day, but maybe more, after signing up for Scouts, you (as parent) should receive an invite to connect with your scout in Scoutbook. You must register with Scoutbook. See our FAQ page for more information or refer to this article for some pretty good instruction.
Scoutbook is an advancement tracking tool. It also has messaging, forums, service, hiking, camping tracking and calendaring features.
Parents should be interacting regularly with Scoutbook to track progress on completion of rank advancements.
